Email Brief and file messages
Talk with Brief by email, file messages in folders, and save calendar invitations.
Email gives you two ways to use Brief: ask Brief a question from your inbox, or file a message in Documents. The agent address and folder addresses serve different purposes.
Talk with Brief by email
- Open Settings → Profile and find Email workspace. When email chat is available, the row shows the address to use for this deployment.
- Send a message from an email address verified on your Brief account. You can attach files for Brief to read (see the types below). Reply to Brief's response to continue the same conversation.
Each attachment must be 10 MB or smaller. In an email conversation, Brief can read PDF, plain text, Markdown, CSV, DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX attachments, and view JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WEBP images. In a conversation, Brief cannot read other types, including JSON, YAML, Python, line-delimited JSON, and MP3, M4A, or WAV audio, and it does not transcribe audio. To file those types as documents, send them to a folder address instead. Brief skips unsupported or oversized attachments. The 10 MB limit also applies to calendar invitations.
Brief replies to the verified sender, even if other people were copied. If you forward a calendar invitation to the agent address, Brief also saves or updates an event document in your private My Documents/meetings folder.
If you belong to more than one workspace, use Email workspace to choose where messages sent to the bare agent address go. To address a specific workspace, add + and its slug before the @ in the agent address, for example brief+your-workspace@usebrief.com when the displayed address is brief@usebrief.com. You must be a member of that workspace. Replies to a workspace-specific address stay with that workspace's conversation.
File an email in a folder
- In Documents, open the destination folder's context menu and select Copy Email Address where offered. Folder addresses work under User Research, Planning, Projects, My Documents, and Skills, up to five folder levels including the top-level folder. A deeper address cannot receive filed email.
- Send or forward the message to that address. Brief files the email body in the named workspace and folder. Supported non-calendar attachments, up to 10 MB each, are added as separate documents in the same folder. Folder-specific addresses keep using their named workspace even if you change Email workspace.
The sender must use a verified Brief email address, belong to the destination workspace, and pass email authentication checks. If nothing appears, check the destination address, your account's verified email, and your membership in that workspace. Messages that fail these checks are not filed. If an attachment is unsupported or fails to process, the email body can still be filed; a note on the email document identifies attachments that were not added.
Forwarding a calendar invitation to a folder address creates or updates an event document. A My Documents destination keeps it private to the sender; a shared-folder destination follows that folder's access. Send later updates to the same event to keep its document current. See Documents for folder access, editing, and recovery.
