Create and claim a Brief Lite report

Build a spec or get feedback on a Speedrun application, then claim your workspace and find your report.

Last updated: October 20, 2026

Brief Lite lets you create a starting spec or get feedback on a draft Speedrun application before setting up a full workspace. Choose the tool that fits your task, then claim your workspace to keep working with the result.

Build a spec

  1. Open Spec Builder. Enter What are you building or deciding?, your Product URL, and your Work email. You can also choose Your role, select optional outcomes under What are you hoping it does?, and paste a ticket or document for extra context.
  2. Follow the guided questions. For each question, you can accept the proposed solution, add notes, or skip it. The number of questions depends on what remains unclear; there may be none.
  3. Review the finished spec. Select Download as PDF if you want a copy before claiming it. If Brief finds a conflict when you claim the spec, it may reopen the questions so you can address it. If no more questions are available, the page directs you to email hello@briefhq.ai for help.
  4. Select Claim this spec → on the finished spec. Sign in to claim it and open the workspace.

If you return through a link after finishing, you may see the Your workspace is ready page instead. Select Claim my workspace there to continue to sign-in. The ready page lists your spec and any feature or decision that is already available or expected when you claim. It does not promise a task list.

Get feedback on a Speedrun application

  1. Open Speedrun Application Coach. Paste your existing draft into Paste your draft application answers. You can add a Company URL, but it is optional.
  2. Enter your email address under Where should we send it?, then select Send my coaching.
  3. Brief emails the critique to that address. Read the feedback in the email; this report has no public report page.
  4. Select Work on the gaps in the email to claim your workspace. Sign in with the receiving account when prompted. After claiming, open the saved report in Your reports.

The coach accepts up to 50,000 characters of draft answers. If your draft is longer, shorten it before sending.

Find a claimed report

Open Your reports after signing in. If your workspace has one report, Brief opens it directly. If it has several, the page lists the most recent reports with their titles, report types, dates, and summary snippets. Select a report to open it.

Fix a claim or submission problem

  • An unclaimed Lite workspace is eligible to expire 30 days after its last activity. If the claim page says This workspace has expired, select Start a new report; that report can no longer be claimed.
  • The sign-in ticket in a Speedrun report email lasts 7 days. If it has expired or was already used while you are signed out, the link takes you to sign-in. Sign in with the account that received the report. An expired email ticket does not by itself mean the workspace has expired.
  • If you are signed in with a different account from the one that received the report, select Sign out and try again and continue with the receiving account.
  • If the claim page says This link didn't work, the link may be invalid or already used. If it came from an email, request a fresh report and use its newest link.
  • If it says Still setting up your workspace, refresh the page in a minute. If it remains stuck, use the support address shown there.
  • If a submission is rate limited, wait for the limit window before trying again. Each report type has a separate limit of three attempts per email address within 24 hours. Spec Builder and the Speedrun coach share a limit of 20 submissions per IP address within one hour. Other protections may also limit a busy public tool.

The Spec Builder idea is limited to 500 characters and its optional pasted context to 8,000 characters. Very long submissions can still be rejected by the form's overall size limit. Shorten the text and retry if that happens.

After claiming, use Brief Chat to discuss the report.
